Resource Industry Directors, Managers, Supervisors:
Is Your Operator Training Defensible In Court?
Because if it’s not, you could go to jail.
For a very long time.
You are At Risk!
. . . if your training is not:
|
Bill C-45 (2004) amends the Criminal Code of Canada and makes it easier for the courts to convict employers and managers of criminal negligence when workplace safety standards are seriously breached.
Do you, as part of your job, direct the work of others? If you are part of the chain of command, you need to know that Bill C-45 affects you personally. For a serious incident that causes injury to a worker or the public, you can do up to 10 years in prison. If there is a fatality, you can potentially be looking at life imprisonment.
Your company cannot get insurance to cover you in these cases. And depending on the case, Directors, Managers and Employees can all be liable.
North Pacific Training and Performance Inc. works primarily with resource-based companies and manufacturers who employ plant or heavy equipment operators, and who want defensible training programs that:
- Reduce the risk of injury or environmental incidents
- Demonstrate due diligence in operator training, should the need ever arise
- Increase worker productivity
- Reduce equipment downtime and repair costs
If you are like managers in many of these companies, you know about Bill C-45, but are not completely clear on how much due diligence needs to be done. You have measures in place, but still wonder how well your operator training would demonstrate to the courts that you have taken all reasonable steps to train your operators?
You find pulling together a complete defensible training system a real challenge. Like most managers, you know that a systematically developed and delivered training program is essential but getting there is a slow process when it’s done off the side of a desk. Even with a willing workforce, how do you ensure equipment and plant operators are fully trained to measurable, observable performance standards?
North Pacific’s Defensible Training Systems are helping directors and managers stay out of jail while reducing equipment wear and damage, and increasing production and profitability. The development and delivery of competency-based training systems is helping many companies establish trackable, accountable training systems that clearly demonstrate the measures taken to produce competent, safety-conscious operators, increase productivity, and reduce the risk of injury and environmental incidents.
North Pacific Training and Performance has been working with industry and manufacturing since 1988 to increase profitability and performance and reduce the chances of going to jail. We have a solid record of success that proves our approach works. It can work for you as well.
